I've always loved Rimmel as a brand, and have especially had a soft spot for the Rimmel x Kate Moss lipsticks for a very longggg time (high school makeup horrors are currently flashing before my eyes). So needless to say I was pretty stoked when I heard that they were dropping a new lipstick called 'The Only 1' which promised to deliver high impact color, longevity, comfort and moisture. I must admit I was skeptical - how many times have we heard claims from lipstick brands promising all of the above, only to be left disappointed and several (in my case hundreds) of dollars poorer than we were to begin with.
So the claim is that this new lipstick will be 'the only' lipstick that you will need - no more lugging around 5 products to make your lips bright, moisturized and comfortable all day - did they achieve this claim? Read on to find out!
The packaging of this product is nice - and definitely stands out amongst the sea of lipsticks that line the drugstore shelves. The cap is pointed, with a slanting edge, and features a color strip of the lipstick around the base - which is a huge plus for me as it makes finding the shade your after so much easier to locate (especially if your handbag is a bottomless pit like mine).
The actual lipstick is shaped in a similar fashion - which unfortunately makes it a little messy to apply, meaning you can't get a perfectly crisp line without using a lip brush.
The Rimmel 'Only 1' color selection is fairly wide - with there being a total of 15 shades in the collection. Lots of deep reds, mauves and pinks. It is missing a nude spectrum, so if your not a color lover or wearer - you may not be able to find your perfect shade in this collection. If you are however, you are going to LOVE the brights, and the selection of cool and warm undertones.
I have swatched the 6 colors that I could get my hands on, check out the Rimmel website for the remaining shades!
Swatched left to right above
810 'One Of A Kind' A deep burgandy red
610 'Cheeky Coral' A bright pinky coral
620 'Call Me Crazy' Neon Orange
300 'Listen Up' Pinky Red
500 'Revolution Red' A gorgeous, neutral red
710 'Easy Does It' Mauvy brown with flecks of shimmer
I personally love the scent of the lipstick, its a fresh, floral aroma and doesn't linger for long after the lipstick is applied. It should be noted that it is quite strong however, so for those of you who passionately hate fragranced beauty products it may be a little overpowering for you.
Now onto the formula, which is I'm sure the part of you have all been waiting for! The lipsticks swatch very well, extremely opaque, smooth and buttery, and glide across the lips with very little effort. They feel like a wet look lipstick and give a great moisturized feeling - if you had blindfolded me and put this on my lips I could have sworn it was a simple lip balm. About 5 or so minutes after initial application the lipstick dries down to more of a demi satin finish (or perhaps my poor chapped lips suck up all the moisture?) and feels very comfortable on the lips. I would definitely recommend using a matching lipliner with this product as there is some light feathering, which is to be expected with such a light weight, moisture rich formula. The longevity of this lipstick is truly incredible, I applied mine after breakfast at approximately 8am, and was able to last through until about 4pm without any touch ups at all! To be honest I completely forgot I was wearing a lipstick it was that comfortable on the lips. It lasted through lunch, and the most delicious cup of T2 Brisbane Breakfast tea ever (I add cream to mine for extra deliciousness!).
Overall this lipstick is a huge win in my books, it definitely delivers on it's promise and will give you all day color, whilst at the same time being light and moisturizing on the lips. The colors are beautiful, although being such a nude lover, I do wish they included more nudes in the range. In Australia it retails for $15.95 ($6.99 USD) and is available anywhere you can buy Rimmel.
